Re:Connect

Move

‘All experience is felt’ - John Stirk

We experience the world through our bodies.  Our senses are continually taking information in from our environment and the body responds.  However, we often pay little attention to this, prioritising the mind and our thoughts.  The body then just becomes  a vehicle for the mind, that we can sculpt and tone, an object that we want to change the shape of from an external perspective.  The body and mind aren’t separate, there is no hierarchy of mind over body, it is all one beautiful system designed to work together.

Our life is stored in our body.  The way we hold and move it creates patterns in all systems in the body.  Our thoughts also have an impact on these body patterns. They tell the story of our lives and they impact how we interact with the world.  This can lead to limiting beliefs about the capacity and potential of our body and mind.

So, how we move matters and variation is key. Our joints like to move through their full range, the spine wants to move in all directions, the muscles need to be contracted and lengthened. The body is designed for movement, it is a remarkable organism, it possesses self healing and regulatory mechanisms within it.  We just need to set the optimum conditions for the body, then it knows what to do.

We believe it is important to get to know your body better,  you can start to do this by developing understanding of our anatomy, this gives us a basis of the structure within us.  However to truly get to know your body you need to move with awareness.  Develop your felt sense and connect to the whole self, body and mind.  When I move in that way what happens, what do I notice?  Our movement practice is centred around an explorative mindset, being curious about what shows up each day.
